Q4. What are some exclusions that do not qualify to be claimed?
To keep premiums affordable for most customers, and to minimize the chance of abuse or fraud, some exclusions apply. Some key examples (non-exhaustive) of exclusions that will not be claimable include:
- If your accident happens outside of Singapore
- If the accident happened before the start of your CDW policy coverage
- If you had already claimed for 1 accident for that 1-month long CDW policy, and have not purchased a new policy
- If you are the insured party under CDW but were not the driver of the vehicle that got into the accidentIf you bought a CDW policy with MORE coverage than the maximum excess liability stated on your rental contract
Q5. If there’s an accident, will I need to pay the excess to my car rental company first or will Gigacover pay first?
Both are possible, however you still need to file your claims with Gigacover and your claim will still need to be approved by the insurer before any claim payout can be done.
If you would like Gigacover to pay your rental excess first:
- You will need to check with your car rental company and they must agree to Gigacover paying the reduced excess on your behalf (Do note that Gigacover will only payout after your claim has been approved).
- You can show your policy schedule as proof that you do have an inforced CDW policy with Gigacover
- Gigacover is unable to issue any letters as your claim will need to be approved by the insurer.
- Once the insurer approves, Gigacover will make the claim payout directly to your car rental company.
If you would like to pay your rental excess first, you can continue to file your claims as usual with Gigacover and we will make the claim payout to you once the claim is approved.
